Autumn 2009 Colorways

1. Pieces of Eight

Pieces of Eight was an idea from last year that I really really wanted to do, but I put the idea back on the shelf since we had so many colorways last year. I was chomping at the bit to dye it for this year! Pirates and cannons and yo ho hos, bottles of rum!

Colors: Light steel green, goldenrod, silver, black, maroon, blood red

2. Pumpkin Royale



Well I always have to do both a pumpkin and an apple colorway every year, and here is this year's pumpkin. My inspiration for Pumpkin Royale was misty images of a rural pumpkin patch: the pumpkins, the faded vines, the soil, the overcast sky, the sun-bleached denim on the scarecrow.

Colors: orange, natural, light steel green, chocolate, carmel, and light steel blue

3. Fair Isle Carmel Apple



Our Apple colorway this year year is a fun makeover of our Classic Carmel Apple colorway. We still love Classic Carmel Apple but we had fun mixing it up in this fun colorway. Colors include all of the colors of the original, but substitutes natural for silver. color repeats are also short and more erratic than the original.

4. Cast a Spell



Who says bold blue can't be 'fallish'? Bold splashes of blue offset the traditional autumn colors in this whimsical colorway.

Colors: Light steel green, ultra-marine blue, faded ocean blue, corn husk yellow, rust red, brown and natural.

5. Little Orchard

Colors: dark and light iced lilac, natural, dark and light steel green, brown

Poison Apple

Our 'Apple' selection for 2008, "Poison Apple" This one we've had planned since last year! We are glad to finally show it to you: apple red, burgundy, light slate blue, chocolate, and black! It's dangerous!

Pumpkin Head

Every year we need a new pumpkin colorway, and this year is no exception! This year's pumpkin is bold: med. green, orange, black and burgundy.

Out One Night

Venturing out with a group of friends during a chilly mid-autumn's night is rather spooky! Golden yellow, orange, medium blue, black, gray and natural.

Licorice Bats

Careful, they're gooey! Confectioner's pink (a medium purple-pink), deep purple, silver, natural and black.

Night Vision

Something is illuminated in the darkness... Three shades of periwinkle, brown, flame orange, celadon and basil.

Owlie

Owlie has two versions! Above: kettle dyed (version 1).

Below: Skeet dyed (version 2)

Purple, indigo, blue, dark yellow, brown, silver and natural.

We sent a shipment of Dach Sox yarn to Woolgirl a couple of weeks ago, and I believe it will be stocked in her store some time today (Sunday, June 15th)

A Colorway Timeline

I've received alot of emails recently about when such and such colorway came out, I decided to start a time line here. This is in now way going to be exhaustive because I have to make it through 26 notebooks to make sure I have everything. But I will do my best. Please let me know if I leave your favorite off.

As the mother of a happy, giggly, almost-four-year old girl, I am subject to galloping, whinnying, pantomime and endless talk about horses and ponys. At our house, there are no pigtails. It's either a ponytail or a horsey tail.A small girl astride a horse on stick gallops around the house morning until night; endless tales of "Pinky the Butterscotch Horse" and "My Brown pony Snuggybug" abound.
These Colorways are for all the horse and pony lovers at heart and the ones who hear about them. Enjoy!

Last Chance

January's Colorway: "Mister Mysterious"

Mister Mysterious started out as drawing on a scrap of paper by a young friend. The drawing's imagery was so vivid, I was sure it needed to inspire a colorway. But which colors?

"You must have black," advised my young friend's mother.

"Hmm, yes" said I. "And purple"

"Purple? Are you sure?"

"Yes I am. His cape is purple. Hmm, how about red?"

"Yes, red is very mysterious." But what else? Neon Green? Too zowie. Navy? Too repetitive after purple. Needed something else, but nothing seemed mysterious enough

I posted this picture in my siggy at a forum with that caption, and NOBODY even mentioned it. I thought it was funny. Oh well. I guess I am still searching for recognition, because here I am posting it on my Dashing Dachs blog. But maybe I am really just not funny.

This is Skippy by the way; our new puppy. He is 16 weeks and 47 pounds. Yikes.

Announcing..........2007 Autumn Colorways!

I always go a little overboard for Autumn, but it's the season of color! This year I tried to bring selection that were fresh,bold, and crisp, and a little bit different.

If you've been with me the past 2 seasons, you'll know I always try to have at least one 'Pumpkin' theme colorway, and one 'Apple' colorway; Pumpkins and Apples being of quintessential importace to Autunm symbology.

So it seems fitting to introduce you to the Pumpkin and Apple of 2007 first:

"Sugar Treat"

The pumpkin variety this colorway takes its name from is a small, smooth pumpkin with bright orange flesh. It has a long curved handle and is quite ornate.
The spirit of this pumpkin is embodied in this colorway with its sweet colors: crisp greens, bright peachy orange, rosy blush, and soft lilac.

"Granny Smith"

Ahhh tart apples...what else is there to say? This Granny Smith colorway has 3 apple greens, white apple flesh and 2 browns, representing stem and seeds.

"Incantate"

A friend of mine told me Incantate looks very Collegiate; depends on who you support, I suppose! Burgandy, gold, smoke, and black.

"Matvey the Cat"

A colorful Octoberish colorway: blazing orange, dark yellow, black, silver and soft green.

"Ghostie"

Black, purple, lavender, silver and white, with a touch of "boo".





And Finally,

"Jack Frost"

Not in the least bit as harsh as Old Man Winter, Jack Frost is genteel and friendly with celery, periwinkle and black.
